Here’s a Mario Giacomelli photograph from 1964-65 that I’ve never been able to figure out. Any one want to take a stab at what exactly is going on?

UPDATE: Yes, those are kids climbing a haystack. The white in the middle ground is bleached out. I always saw paper.
I think I prefer to see it as paper.
